History

1906

1906

Since 1906, Local 19 has proudly represented the members of the International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC) in the great Pacific Northwest. Local 19 spans four time zones with five benches, encompassing all of Alaska and Montana, most of Washington and parts of Oregon, Idaho, and Wyoming. With over 1000 members, Local 19 members are always ready to step up to meet the challenges created by such a large geographical area.

21st Century

21st Century

Shop stewards, NEIEP instructors and Local 19 members in good standing all pitch in to support the Local and mentor our apprentices to build a better union. Over the last  decade, our members have been busy adding multiple buildings to the portfolios of Microsoft, Amazon, and Google, and expanding Seatac Airport and the Seattle Convention Center.

Community Impact

Community Impact

Local 19 takes pride in having a positive impact on the communities we serve. Our good fortune has allowed us to provide continuous support to important charities, including the Toy Box Connection, the Puget Sound Labor Agency Food Bank, and the Special Olympics, as well as offering support to IUEC members who have been adversely affected by natural disasters and personal loss.

6 STATES
361 RETIREES

Since our humble beginnings in 1902…

We have grown to more than 360 members with over 190 retirees.

The Local’s jurisdiction has expanded out from its roots in Baltimore City to include 18 of Maryland’s 23 counties along with Sussex County Delaware and sharing Kent County Delaware with Local 5. If you follow the Mason-Dixon line from the Appalachian Mountains in western Maryland down to the Atlantic beaches of Rehoboth and Ocean City, you will find our members working and living.

From the steps of the state capital in Annapolis up to the top of the Chesapeake Bay, Local #Local 19 members continue to carry on our union elevator constructor heritage well into the 21st century.

Through the National Elevator Industry Educational Program (NEIEP), Local 19 members get industry-leading safety training and education during their apprenticeship and throughout their career. NEIEP’s comprehensive continuing education (CE) courses allow members to hone their skills beyond their initial apprenticeship.
