The National Elevator Industry Educational Program is designed to comprehensively educate Apprentices for a four-year period. During the four years, Apprentices will work five days per week under the supervision of a qualified Mechanic to get on the job training, and attend classes once per week for four hours. In the classroom, students will learn skills and safety measures that they can then take and apply in the field. After four years and the successful completion of all necessary classes, Apprentices are eligible to study for and take the Mechanics Exam.
